In January 1946, Japan has just recently made it through the country's deciding battle in the Pacific War. Japan becomes divided up and occupied by the armies of various nations, including the Soviet Union. Before long, the land becomes split into two independent nations: "Japan," and the "Democratic People's Republic of Japan." Now subject to factions from either the East or the West, an iron curtain descends upon the archipelago—a strong wall is constructed in order to maintain the boundaries of each country. Tokyo, which lies on the border of both countries, is split into eastern and western regions. Fast forward to East Tokyo, 1962. Nineteen-year-old Emilia Sugiura is a young woman who lives in Oshiage and works in a dining establishment in Juugatsu-Kakumei Station (formerly Ueno Station). But there's one more side to her: she's a contractor who helps people in the east flee to the west. What does the future hold for this young woman who crosses the most dangerous bridge of all?!
