The storyteller's jaunty voice, the picturesque atmosphere, and the lively dramatics all evoke memories of happier times. That is when Souta sees it—the storyteller, Kihachi Toujou, turns into a cat. Having seen a true bakeneko, a monster-cat spirit, Souta is now no longer allowed to live. This holds true for Kihachi as well, who allowed a human to witness his cat form.
