Depressed after failing his medical school entrance exams, Tetsu Sakura is spending the summer taking care of his late grandmother's home. While out on a walk with his dog, Tetsu witnesses a Zero Fighter plane fly through the sky and land in a field. Crawling out of the plane is Haruyuki Onaga—a heavily injured man who believes World War II is still raging around them.
