A victim to severe bullying in middle school, she decided to isolate herself from the outside world and in doing so develops a phobia of social situations. It's not until Shouko stumbles across her and eventually befriends her that Akira starts to open up and gradually overcome her fears. Akira spends most of her time in front of the computer either on social media, or hacking into the school's security cameras and students' cell phones.
