Ren is a monk and the priest of the Hourai Shrine. His ability to see and exorcise spirits led to him being left at the shrine as a child, and he is in a rush to get married because he misses having family near. Thus, he proposes to Yukimi after knowing her for only a few minutes, promising that it would solve all her problems. He has a large tattoo of the Buddha across his back.
